About the Artist

Isabel Wright is currently a second year Master’s student in the Department of Medical Illustration at Augusta University. Here, she is developing her skills in creating accurate scientific and medical artwork that promotes health literacy for a wide variety of audiences.

Previously, she attended Adrian College in Michigan where she received her Bachelor of Arts in biology with minors in chemistry and art. As a biology student, Isabel continued to prioritize art in her life by serving as a graphic designer for various Adrian College academic centers including the Institute for Creativity and the Ribbons of Excellence research conference. Additionally, she worked with a biologist to develop educational dissection illustrations for undergraduate zoology students. She also created and edited illustrations for a pelvic floor therapist’s book addressing and destigmatizing women’s health issues.

Recently, as a medical illustration student, Isabel has been able to further pursue her goals of integrating science and art for education and patient care by illustrating published materials for Augusta University Medical Center’s Breast Health Center and the Phinizy Center for Water Sciences research lab.

Additionally, Isabel has presented in several showcases including the AMI Salon and the UGA/AU Science and Medical Illustration Exhibition where she was awarded the Sternstrom Award of Excellence for her piece “Sturgeon of the Savannah River.”

Isabel hopes to continue advancing her skills in illustration and other modalities like three-dimensional model and simulation development, contributing educational resources to aspiring medical providers.
